The three founding Directors spent several years working with Hope Mission servicing Edmonton's less fortunate and found a real need for youth struggling to create a better life for themselves. They had the tendency to relapse back into poor life choices consistently. Relapse prevention requires better decision making skills so we developed a method to achieve this. Registered as a charitable program in 2006, WYCP has been delivering these ten day wilderness challenge programs for small (1-8) groups of youth three times per year in various locations about the province as a support service to partner agencies and professionals working with Alberta's youth. Two out of five youth have avoided a relapse after completing this program and some are maintaining a connection to WYCP.

Quote from our Founding Director
Solo camping requires positive body management and self-awareness...... relapse prevention also requires positive body management and self-awareness.... we show youth how to discover these valuable skills within themselves so as to be successful in their personal life decisions.  L. Eskdale
